Understanding Card Types in Palworld OCG
Pal Cards (Your Frontline)

Every Paltamer needs to know these stats:
- Cost: Top left corner—how much Soul you need to play them.
- Element/Color: Defined by the card's border and icons (Red, Blue, Neutral, etc.).
- Power: Center-bottom—used for battling other Pals and Structures.
- Strike: To the right of Power—determines how much "Life" damage you deal to the opponent.
- Pal Type: Listed under the name (Normal, Lucky, etc.).
- Chikipi: Cost 2 | Power 300 | Strike 1 (Normal Pal).
- Pengullet: Cost 3 | Power 400 | Strike 1 (Normal Pal).
- Jormuntide Ignis: Cost 8 | Power 1300 | Strike 4 (Lucky Pal).
- Traits & Icons: Pals have icons and traits listed under their names. While not used in the demo, they will be key for card synergies in the full release.
Event & Gear Cards

- Events: Instant-speed effects (similar to Spells/Sorceries).
- Gear: Items like the Pump Action Shotgun that stay on the field to buff your Pals.
Structure & Soul Cards

- Structures: Fortifications that provide utility but can be destroyed by enemy attacks.
- Souls: The lifeblood of your deck.
- Pro Tip: You can "Rest" 3 Souls at any time during your main phase to draw 1 card—a vital mechanic since natural draw is slow.
The Flow of Battle at C2E2
Match Setup
- Roll for turn order (winner goes first).
- Both players start with 10 Life.
- Draw 5 cards. You get one Mulligan (shuffle all 5 back and draw 5 new ones).
- The second player starts with 1 ready Soul.
Turn Phases
- Stand Phase: Ready all your rested cards.
- Draw Phase: Draw 1 card (skipped by the first player on turn one).
- Soul Phase: Place 2 Souls from your Soul Deck into the active area.
- Main Phase: The meat of the game. Play Pals, Gear, and Structures. You can have a maximum of 5 Pals on board.
- End Phase: Temporary effects wear off, and damage marks on cards reset to 0.
Combat Mechanics: The "Lucky Pal" Twist
Attacking in Palworld OCG is unique. You can target the opponent's Life, their Structures, or their Rested (Tapped) Pals. You cannot target a standing Pal!
- Universal Blocking: Any standing Pal can be rested to Block an attack.
- The Defender's Edge: Only the defending player can use "Quick" symbol cards/abilities during combat.
- The Lucky Save: If a Lucky Pal is revealed during a Strike check, stop revealing immediately. All revealed cards go to the graveyard, but the defender takes ZERO damage
Strategic Insights for Paltamers
- Defense Wins Games: The game is significantly more favorable to blockers than many other TCGs. Since attackers can be counter-killed and blocked easily, building a solid "wall" of Pals is often more effective than aggressive swinging.
- Resource Management: Don't burn through your hand too fast. With a slow natural draw rate, using the Soul-to-Draw mechanic wisely is the only way to maintain card advantage in the late game.
- Control the Board: Targeting your opponent's rested Pals and Structures is safer than going "face." Only attack the player when it's safe, as a Lucky Pal flip can leave your attacker vulnerable for no gain.
- Pro Synergy: The Primitive Furnace + Cattiva combo was the MVP of the demo, allowing for consistent trades while keeping your hand healthy.
Strategic Insights: The Early Meta
- The standout combo in the demo was Primitive Furnace + Cattiva, which allowed players to trade effectively while maintaining card advantage.
- Expert Advice: Since damage resets every turn, if you want to take down a heavy hitter like Jormuntide Ignis, you must deal all 1300+ damage in a single turn!
